I started reading my writings in 1992. I just wrote a new poem and overheard someone saying they were organizing a poetry reading. I asked if I could read and was obliged. This became a regular event called Cafe Ashtray in the basement of the Acme Art Gallery Co-Op, and I became a regular fixture. The person organizing this event, Arturo Deleon and I became great friends.  Later that year he came up with the name Lady Monster.

After Arturo decided to spend more time with his band, Martyr Colony, I began my own reading events. Calling it Lady Monster Day, it took place on the 15th of every month at the now legendary punk rock pizza joint, Freakin' Pizza (Columbus, Ohio). This event continued for nearly a year (1993). A variety of readers would perform.  The Evolution Control Committee (www.evolution-control.com) usually performed the music set between the readers.

After this project I spent my time performing readings at various functions and as an in-between entertainment for musical acts, including: The New BombTurks (www.newbombturks.com), Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Gaunt, Scrawl, V3 and Pat Dull (of Break-Up Records and Pat Dull and the Media Whores).

In 1995 I met Don "The Pope of Northwood" Pavelcik (RIP 1999). Don was a poet and purveyor of the Columbus jazz scene and helped the careers of many performers by networking them with performers in other cities and genres. He brought us together with his concept: a rebirth of Beat.

We had a variety of musicians - some worked as musicians for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, music teachers at the local arts high school and Ohio State University.  They were musicians that had performed with world renowned and honored acts.  Some were students or original Beats performing in the Columbus scene. There was also a group of formally trained circus performers and graduates of the OSU College of Dance. Poetry was read to the Beat, all improvised music according to the reader's wishes and rhythms. This was also done for the dancers and other performers.

I read my poetry with this group from the beginning. When Don passed from cancer, then I took over the scheduling, publicity and ringleader for Circus of Cool. I passed the torch of the Circus of Cool to another reader and pupil of The Pope, Krista Williams. She continues to carry on his tradition. I have also read at Community Festival (www.comfest.com) and was the MC at the Live Arts Stage.

In July of 1999 I was given a certificate for my training as a Sex Specialist with the Columbus, Ohio Sexline Information. It was modeled after San Francisco Sex Information (www.sfsi.org). I spent over thirty hours training. I volunteered for nearly two years, working on the hotline, with outreach, publicity, and as a writer and committee member for Throwing Heat, their newsletter.

I wrote for MK Ultra Magazine from 1999-2002 as the Sexorcist. I researched and wrote How To's and Advice on such topics as BDSM and Oral Sex. I also published interviews of John Doe (of X and the John Doe Thing), Nina Hartley (of the Adam & Eve How To videos and numerous other adult films) and a story about joining the Green Party that features comments from many influential party members, including Jello Biafra.

In August 2001 I moved to San Francisco from Columbus, Ohio.  In May 2002 I was received 60 hours of training from the San Francisco Sexline Information (www.sfsi.org), a non-profit organization. I perform outreach and write for their newsletter. They provide free, anonymous, non-judgmental information about sex and sexuality.

They just celebrated their 30th anniversary. Several Sex-Positive advocates received their start from SFSI, including Dr. Carol Queen, Dr. Robert Lawrence, Susie Bright, Pat Califia, Joani Blank (founder of Good Vibrations), Isadora Alman of Ask Isadora and many, many others. I am very proud to be among this group and look forward to using this information to my advantage to spread a message of positivity regarding issues of sex and sexuality.

After meeting Jennifer Blowdryer at the Sleazefest in 2002, I was introduced to the folks at K'Vetch.  This amazing group of queer writers has provided me with so much inspiration.  Their level of freedom of expression that not only exists in their writings, but their everyday lives is something I never thought I would experience.  I feel very privileged to be in such company as the all of the courageous, driven, free-spirited and full-souled that are in San Francisco.

This leads up to the time I created this web page.

Since that time I have become a burlesque dancer, a model, a featured reader at spoken word events in San Francisco, a producer of successful benefits, and will be on tour with the Revolting Cocks this summer.

THANK YOU to all that have been in my life to help make this happen.  It would not have without your love and support.

Please check the page: Performances for new and upcoming shows. Please feel free to contact me for booking and publishing opportunities. Thank you.

QUOTES:

Allen Ginsberg:

"Censorship about sex is one way of keeping the populace under control.  If you can censor the seat of one of the greater emotions, then you've got the other varieties of communication and consciousness under control.  In a sense, once you get people by the balls, you've got them."

Naomi Wolf (Fire With Fire):

"If we aren't crazy about the way female sexuality is portrayed, let's get out there and seize the means of production: Make diaries, novels, plays, and paintings from our erotic lives; come out unabashedly, every one of us, as sexual beings. We have only begun to map the Dark Continent of female fantasy and desire. If we think the sexual imagery out there tells lies about what we long for, it's up to us to saturate the airways with our millions of erotic truths. Metaphor, poetry, testimony, logic, reportage, documentation, persuasion: more room, more speech, more complexity. The master's tools can dismantle the master's house."

Henry Rollins:

“Of course it is scary to go out and tell an audience about my most intimate thoughts, but at the same time it is very challenging and liberating. I see the truth as my shield. As long as I tell the truth I feel that nobody can touch me. I can’t really explain it, but I feel as long as I tell them my dark sides there is nothing they can dig up. If I don’t hide anything there is nothing to be scared of.  I’ve always seen it as the role of an artist to drag his inside out, give the audience all you’ve got. Writers, actors, singers, all good artists do the same. It isn’t supposed to be easy.”

Damien Echols:

Sex and art are the two most powerful tools mankind has, and both reach into the deepest part of our psyche (or soul).  Sex and art are magick’s greatest vehicles, and nothing has more power to transform us.  Both, when done properly, are expressions of love and unity.
